About Our Shop
Welcome to The Asparagus Shed, a retail space of Farmhouse Antiques operated by the Goody Hallet Holding Co. and Sea Farm, LLC. - Linda and William Burt, Managers. The Asparagus Shed was so named because it is believed that the building was used for final cutting and bundling of asparagus grown on the farm many years ago. The original section of the farmhouse was built in 1830. The shed building was moved to this location in two pieces from another site, and some maintain that it came from one of the lifesaving or coastguard stations, which may account for it's length and width.
Farming, fishing, and shellfishing were the major occupations of the region up until the 1950's or so, and asparagus and turnips were mainstay crops grown on the farms of the Nauset Plains. Today, other than the fields maintained by the Cape Cod National Seashore at Fort Hill, and the fine old farmhouses and outbuildings that dot the landscape, there is little remaining evidence of the farming activity that once took place in S. Wellfleet and Eastham.
We hope you enjoy your visit to the Asparagus shed!
